I’m confused about this part of the manual:
I initially expected “Based on” to just “duplicate” the previous heading, but was very surprised by the linking.
I wonder … what is the usecase of “based on” if it’s just going to create a link copy? Why not just use the same heading in this case?
Is there a way to duplicate / copy paste frames? I couldn’t make this work and it makes working with templates / heading pretty default.
It’s the same with Master Pages. I’ve never cared for that behavior either.

Master Pages
You probably mean Page Templates
We know that further options are needed in this area: it should be possible to see whether a frame is linked to another, and to break that link if desired. This has been on our backlog for a long time, but it will eventually get taken care of.

That option would be very helpful.
@dspreadbury I’m curious what is the reason/motivation you created the “Based On” feature in the first place?
Some explainations from @pianoleo in this thread:
The advantage of the linked frames is that if you have, say, a page number in the same place on every template, and your publisher wants you to move that page number, you only have to do it once. It would be frustrating if that functionality were to be taken away.
The idea of the “based on” page templates is that you reuse any Frames that do need to remain constant across the templates, and build new Frames where you need differences.

I think I’m missing something… in that usecase, wouldn’t you just use the same template? What’s the advantage of a new one?
