Conga setup/playback

Conga.dorico (637.8 KB)
Here is a dorico project with JABB congas and Iconica latin percussion. JABB still only plays 2 of the 4 sounds. Iconica plays instruments I don’t want. If needed you can delete my instruments and create your own.

Thanks
Chuck

I’ve attached an edited version for you.

Some notes:

  1. If you want your Congas in order of highest-lowest pitch on the staff, the Requinto should be above the Quinto in your Percussion Kit. This is what you had:

  1. If you want these four instruments to trigger different MIDI Notes, they each need to be assigned to a different one. You only had two different congas with G3-A3 all being triggered by Quinto:

  1. The same rules apply for any Playing Techniques such as Slap, Open, Bass Tone… If you have three Quinto samples in your VST for Natural, Slap and Bass Tone then you need to have three different MIDI notes in your Percussion Map, all assigned to the Quinto but with each Playback Technique as necessary. This way the Quinto Natural will trigger “Note A”, the Slap will trigger “Note B” and the Bass Tone will trigger “Note C”.

Here is an edited version and a list of what I have done:

Conga EDIT.dorico (557.0 KB)

  • Reordered the Congas in your Percussion Kit
  • Given each drum a separate MIDI Note in the Percussion Map, from highest to lowest
  • Created a Bass tone Playing Technique and assigned it to a higher, fifth MIDI Note (to make it obvious).

  • I’ve also reassigned this Conga Percussion Kit to the default Halion Piano VST so that you will easily hear each note being triggered.

You should hear four descending pitches, followed by two of the second pitch, followed by two of a fifth pitch

All you need to do now is either:

a) Change your trigger notes in your VST to match the Percussion Map

(e.g. so that the correct conga sample is triggered by G3)

OR

b) Change which MIDI Note each instrument/technique is assigned to in the Percussion Map, to match your VST

(e.g. so that the correct conga instrument/technique is triggering G3)

I ended up exporting your kit and then imported into my score. At first I tried duplicating your setup into my score with not great results. Importing seems to have done the trick. Thanks

I created the conga drum kit and imported into my score. The sounds play and I can write them in the score but there is no fader for the conga. How can I create a fader?

Select the Channel section in the left column (under Insert Effects).

Actually I did that and should have shown this.
