Connection problems

MY cubase recognizes my Midi controller. It send s midi. But I cannot get any output when creating new tracks.IN fact it says there’s no midi controller connection. Can someone please help me to send my a step by step in settings. Its something to do with generic remote I presume. I use a M-Audio Oxygen 49.
