Consider detachable, floatable proofreading panel

Can someone please tell me what I’m doing wrong?

Doesn’t look like you’re doing anything wrong. I’m not going to post a video, but it works fine for me on Win11.

Does this happen in every project? Does this happen with a different panel selected on the right side, or only Proofreading? What is currently selected? Does it make a difference if something else or nothing is selected?

It doesn’t matter what is selected. But as soon as I click to open the properties panel the left and right panel disappear, but the top panel with the record/play controls is not affected. It still shows.

Do you have any or all of these updates installed?

KB2974666
KB5056579
KB5058411

I’ve seen KB updates do stuff like this before.

Are any developers on this chat?

I don’t have the first one, but I have the other 2.

No devs have chimed in yet – you can recognize them from the Steinberg logo in their avatars – but they read everything here and will eventually respond.

Ok, as soon as the VSTs finish unloading I can try opening a different project and check again.

I just opened a very small piano solo project and still have the problem there.

Which version of Win 11 do you have? I’m running Windows 11 Pro Version 24H2 Build 26100.4061.

I’ll be away for maybe 5-10 minutes… I just uninstalled KB2974666 and restarting. That didn’t help, so now I’m uninstalling KB5058411.

If a dev comes on, they almost certainly will need to see your Diagnostics. Just go to Help / Create Diagnostic Report and post it. Since it’s a display issue, I would also post other display info like multiple monitors, screen resolution, display percentage, etc.

I uninstalled 4 KB updates and turned off. Automatic windows updating for now. Still waiting for my computer restart.

One of them must have been a cumulative update because it’s taking a while. But yes, as soon as I get back on I will submit a diagnostic report.

There’s a setting in preferences, general, window: “Close side panels when lower panel is opened”

Good to learn something new.

Came here to say this, by the time I finished scrolling through all the replies, you beat me to it.

@OP, Keep calm and change preferences.

Ha – it only just occurred to me to look for a preference for this! Glad I’m not alone!

I had already figured out it was my preferences, I don’t know what happened to my post regarding it, unless it’s because it was to a specific person.

The crazy thing is I have never changed that setting and I do vaguely recall that the panels used to not close like they were when I submitted this post. But it’s good to have full functionality back.

Looks like you posted your reply about preferences in a different thread of yours.
