Considering Dorico to replace Sibelius

I mostly changed navigation & playback shortcuts (to more closely match my DAW behavior since I’m back and forth all day); and also I mapped the note input keypad shortcuts to match that more closely to Sibelius (which I personally feel makes more musical sense rather than being technically logical). Otherwise I left all popovers and editing commands as-is. To each their own, but it hasn’t been an issue for me.

Dorico is very keyboard-centric which I prefer. I’ve heard around here someone say before, popovers are kind of like talking to the software (though not quite AI). But the point is, using the keyboard you quickly open a contextual pop-up window and tell it what you want. Quite often single letters, numbers, or abbreviations work (depending on context). Therefore you spend way less time mousing around in menus and digging for specific articulations etc. While you can access this all by a menu pane with a mouse, you don’t have to, and I certainly rarely do.

@Janus, I’ve been meaning to add these keyboard commands since reading your post. Actually they’ll be the first I’ve ever created.

Where do I find the commands in the list on the left-hand side in the Key Commands window?

And is it possible to have a command like ctrl-66 to set the grid to dotted crotchets?

Thank you so much! I’ll do that right now.

So, the basic values are working fine, but for the dotted notes ctrl+ two characters is accepted by the Key Command editor, but in actual use they don’t do anything.

Am I missing something here?

Did you set Crtl-66? May be that does not work because Ctrl 6 is an command for opening and closing the top panel.

When I set the command ctrl-6 for setting the grid to quarter note resolution is did give me a warning that there was a command in global mode that conflicted, but the same command works fine in note-input mode to set grid resolution to quarter note as long as I already have the caret activated.

That is a little different from doing things on the screen, where I see that I can change the grid resolution before entering note input mode.

My problem now is to set shortcuts for the dotted note
values.
