How do I prevent velocity layers from changing the timbre when using dynamic markings in Dorico? I’m using the Silk Roads electric piano and want a consistent sound regardless of dynamics.
that your piano has separate controllers for timbre and dynamics in which case you need to establish what they are and ensure that the Expression Map in Dorico is correctly programmed so that you can control them independently. If you tell us what they are, we could help with that if necessary (or even better is of course if someone happens to have that very instrument)
the timbre always changes with the dynamics with this instrument in which case there’s nothing you can do. Dorico cannot change the qualities of the instrument.
It does seem that this does produce a brighter, bell-like sound at higher note velocities, and a darker, more covered sound at lower ones.
I concur with dko22: unless there is a control for timbre that is separate from the dynamic control, then there’s nothing you can do.
(If you have the full HALion 7 software, it might be possible to modify the layers somehow. That’s a separate purchase, not the HALion Sonic that comes with Dorico.)
