Consolidate multi-bar rests display issue

Hi. I’m using Dorico 5 elements, mostly for drum parts.

When I choose the option “Consolidate multi-bar rests”, Dorico proceeds to put a big fat ugly “1” above single bars of rest. I want to get rid of this, so it only kicks in when there is more than one consecutive bar of rest, but I can’t find how to do it.

I don’t get how this happens. When I choose “consolidate multi-bar rests”, why on earth does it do anything to single bars of rests. By definition, a single bar of rest is not a multi-bar rest !
Am I missing something ?

Welcome to the forum.

EDIT: The setting you want is in Engraving Options > Rests; but unfortunately, that’s not available to Elements.

Don’t hurt its feelings, just because you don’t need it! :grinning: Every setting in Dorico is there because someone wants it.

It’s a default because it’s commonly used.

@benwiggy is correct, but unfortunately Engraving Options are only available in Dorico Pro, not Elements.

Ok thanks for the help. I understand some people might want it. But still, somehow it would make sense to me that when I choose the option “Consolidate multi-bar rests”, it only deals with…multi-bar rests, and not single bar’s rests. Anyway, thanks very much :slightly_smiling_face:
