Constant Random Crashes

Cubase is crashing every 10 minutes or so. There is no pattern when it does so, it can be during playback, while rendering, while audio editing…
The thread that crashes in the report is always the one that contains the ‘com.steinberg.AudioFileHandler.Xiph’ in it. I tried to google it but it doesn’t give much info about it.

Thank you for your help!

I would need the source *.crash file to have a look closely. But this crash is in the VST Thread. Some plug-in was crashing.

Hi Martin,

Thank you for jumping in.
What are you referring to with *.crash file? The full crash report file or the diagnostics file under ~Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports?

Thank you!

The full *.crash file, which you can find in the Console utility.

Hi Martin,

Thank you for your help.
Please find the crash file attached to this message.

Thank you!
Cubase 10_2019-05-06-230036_Sams-iMac.crash (156 KB)

I also get random crashes after a few hours of work.
No dmp files so far, unfortunately
PC win10
Cubase 10.0.20

Reported to Steinberg.

Have you tried in Cubase Safe Start Mode, please?

Hi Martin,

Thank you for taking the time to investigate the issue, I appreciate it.

I have not used Cubase in Safe mode but I will try.
Any specification about what you have found in the crash report? When I saw that AudioFileHandler is always the culprit of the crash, I was thinking maybe that is because I record and edit with FLAC files instead of WAV files? Or maybe totally unrelated… I’ve been setting my project to FLAC files ever since it became available in Cubase (6 or 7, I forgot…) and never had a problem, besides freezing files at the beginning but that was fixed soon after.

Thank you again for you help!

Could you maybe attach some more crash files, just to know, if all of them are the same, please?
