Constructive Feedback on WaveLab’s UI/UX from a Cubase User

I have been using WaveLab 11 for about two weeks. While I deeply respect its professional sound quality and excellent audio engine, I find the user interface and usability a bit challenging compared to Cubase and Nuendo.

Professional audio software should ideally enhance workflow efficiency. I would love to see WaveLab’s UI/UX modernized in future updates so that users can complete basic tasks more fluidly. I truly want to love this software for its incredible sound, so I would like to share a few points for potential improvement:

1. Consistency with Cubase and Nuendo
Since these are all Steinberg products, it would be wonderful if WaveLab shared more of the smooth, modern UI/UX design found in Cubase and Nuendo. Bringing some of that excellent and efficient workflow over to WaveLab would make it much easier for cross-platform users to adapt.

2. More Intuitive Multiple Exporting Workflow
When exporting multiple clips into separate individual files, the default behavior can be a bit confusing. Currently, a user needs to open the “Naming Scheme” window, remove the default “Name” attribute, and replace it with “Clip Name” just to separate the files. It would be much more helpful if there were a simpler, one-click preset or button for this common task.

3. Enhancing Clip Selection in Audio Montage
Selecting multiple clips in the audio montage could be more user-friendly. In most modern software, including Cubase, you can easily select or drag across multiple items. In WaveLab, finding a way to select all clips isn’t as immediate if you aren’t familiar with specific shortcuts like “Ctrl+A”. Making this behavior more standard would greatly improve usability.

Thank you for developing such a high-quality audio tool. I hope these suggestions help make WaveLab even better and more intuitive for everyone.

Regarding point #1, please be more precise and give examples. Anyway, it’s largely a matter of habit. For example:

• In WaveLab, you can dock windows freely, a modern feature that lets you customize the environment to your liking. In Cubase, you can’t.
• In WaveLab, you can group plugins in a tabbed view, and tabbed views are a handy, modern design. In Cubase, you can’t.
• In WaveLab, you can open several montages (the equivalent of Cubase projects) in multiple tabs. In Cubase, you can’t.

Regarding point #2: no, that isn’t necessary. Clip names are used by default. And incidentally, WaveLab’s naming scheme is more powerful than Cubase’s, thanks to its variable system.

Regarding point #3: hold Ctrl+Shift (Cmd+Shift on Mac) and drag to select multiple clips.
