Control room no sound because of no preset

I’m running into something weird in Cubase. While mixing, I suddenly lose all sound. At first I had no idea why, but now I know it’s related to the Control Room.

What happens is this:
I open the Control Room, check the presets, and it always says “no preset”. Then I change it to Default, or select one I saved earlier. The sound immediately comes back. Good, but the confusing part is:

  1. Why does Control Room suddenly go silent during mixing?
  2. Why does the preset show “no preset” even though I set it to Default?
  3. When I change it back to Default, the next time I open Control Room, it again says “no preset”. Why doesn’t it remember the Default preset?

Nothing else in the project seems wrong, no mute, meters are moving, Control Room is clearly the trigger, but I don’t understand why it keeps resetting or displaying “no preset” next time I check.

Am I missing something in how Control Room presets are supposed to work? Is this a bug or a setting I don’t know about?

It is a bit confusing with the Control Room presets not being shown by name and always being displayed as “no preset”, but it is normal, happens here, too. Cubase always stores the current control room settings in its preferences folder when it exits cleanly. Or at least it should.

Why you suddenly lose the sound in control room I cannot say atm, never happened to me. Are the audio device ports in the audio connections/control room window still correct even though the presets field says “no preset”?

Maybe you’re getting an interface disconnect and it resets because the ports are unavailable. What’s your interface and have you done the usual usb power management tweaks if it’s usb?
