Control surface selected track won't follow DAW

All of a sudden in the last week or two, when I select a track in Cubase, the selected track is not reflected on the MCU Pro, or conversely, if I hit a select button on the MCU, Cubase does not highlight that track. Solo, Mute, Fader, Rec, etc all work.

Example: Track 3 is selected in Cubase. Select button on MCU track 3 doesn’t light up, but all other controls on MCU track 3 correctly control Cubase track 3.

CC121 is the opposite - it randomly “anchors” to one Cubase track and only controls that track, except that the channel select buttons will move the selected Cubase track around.

Example: Cubase track 3 is selected. Hitting CC121 channel select forward button will advance selected Cubase track to 4, 5, etc… but all other CC121 controls will only modify track 8 (or whatever random track it “anchors” on when the project loads).

I have had this setup for years and it has always been rock solid stable until the last couple of weeks. I made no Cubase settings changes at all. I did recently install the latest Cubase 15 update, and I also installed some Windows updates within the last couple of weeks.

Any help would be much appreciated.

What happened in this period? Any update? Maybe a Windows update (silent one) by any chance?

How is your MCU integrated in Cubase? Do you use the old Mackie Control way, or do you use MIDI Remote script?

Windows was updated at some point.
MCU is/has been integrated via Mackie Control.

As Windows has been updated, could you try to reinstall the device’s driver, please?

I’ve done that and a lot more. Called Steinberg and was advised to trash my prefs folder, which solved this specific issue but caused me to have to spend two days to fully rebuild my system back to what it was.

Just curious as a general question - going forward, is it advisable to implement MCU Pro using the old Mackie protocol, or is a solid midi remote script (like from bjoluc) the way to go?

I take it back - even after trashing the pref folder, reinstalling remote devices, etc, the issue has returned. Cubase ran fine for several hours and then suddenly once again I cannot select a track without it immediately reverting to a different track.
