I had found a thread from 2 or 3 years ago talking about converting staff text to system text, and that it wasn’t an option then. I’m working on converting a project from Finale XML’s and much of the text shows as staff text. Is there a way to convert it to system text yet?
There might be a way hacking the .xml file - if you know what you are doing. In Dorico itself you could do a “cut and paste”, but that is laborious of course. There are at least two kinds of System text in Dorico, Tempo and System text. Still music.xml files carry much more than that, it might be lyrics, composer, title information, sometimes page numbers and other things. I myself prefer to sort these things out manually in Dorico than leaving it to some automatism, which one can’t be sure it reads everything correctly.
I think I may just be procrastinating some! It’s mostly dialogue in a theatre piece…some of which is fine just as staff text for the PV but some of it should be in the player parts, but not all. I’ve mostly been copying/pasting or just redoing the text all together, which is tedious. But it’s good practice. When you open a default text (shift-X) and then select a label, like “cue line” - does that go in as system text? I guess while I’m at it – how can you tell if text is default or system.
Bob, best is to choose/tag exactly the message, that will help the next person having a similar or the same question/issue.
Reason: it will appear right underneath your original first question/contribution - so no-one has to scroll through all messages.
This makes these forums an efficient tool.
I’d say tick the solution under the post that is giving a useful explanation. I would choose the 4th post of this thread (short k_b explanation about staff/system text)
