Copy and Paste Error in Dorico

Hello. Not sure why this is happening, but it seems if I want to simply copy and paste a bar (ie bar 66 to bar 76 in screenshot example), the measure before it (with triplets, bar 75) gets affected. Please advise? Not sure how I can resolve this. Please look at second screenshot of triplet bar at 75 of how it should be BEFORE I copy and paste… My understanding is that Dorico won’t let you tie a bar in its 100% capacity if there is a tie proceeding it (as bar 71, which I am not able to do), even with the Force Duration tool…

It would be much easier to follow your request and suggest a solution, if you could upload a cut-down Dorico Project of these couple of bars.

Probably your voices are set so that in bar 75 the bar rest appears and pushes the tuples bracket down.

Also I don’t understand what you mean with “tie a bar in its 100% capacity”.

Christian, it seems Dorico forces you to work backwards if there are ties involved…

Sorry, I still don’t understand what your issue is with ties. What is your goal?
Please upload the Project, and tell us for example I want to copy bar x to bar y and so on…

Hi Christian, Dorico is not allowing me to copy and paste a bar IF there are ties into the first beat and/or the last beat to another bar accordingly. It’s simply not possible… The same thing for independent ties, glisses, etc (read second post on Dorico). I don’t know how else to put it. My music is rather lyrical with note duration (ie. a quarter note tied to an eighth, rather than a dotted quarter note), and it seems lyrical music interferes with ties, glisses being independent of its what’s coming before and after…

For instance, this bar, I also want to simply put a tie AND a gliss from on the 2 eighths. Here it’s simply not possible with Dorico UNLESS you do it manually in Engrave mode with other notes…

The thing is that if you select a bar that has tied notes before or after the barlines, the tied notes will be selected as well. You can select the bar then deselect the tied notes, or you can temporarily untie the notes (positioning the caret in that rhythmic position and pressing U) and select and copy and paste.

This was discussed earlier and the Team is aware of this and in future there will probably be methods of selecting only the bars.

How do you “deselect the tied notes”?

The two eight note are different notes and cannot be tied, maybe you mean to add a slur?

Just Command(Control) click them, after selecting the bar.

My apologies, but this is simply not working. Again, I may have to implement this piece in Finale until Dorico fixes this. Is there a simpler way to create ties and/or slurs without comprising everything else?

@brianjmark

you can add a gliss. without problems:

and here how to put the slur:

The only difference I can see is the rest with the fermata. This is likely caused by the re-emergence of that voice in the bar you pasted (without seeing voice colours it’s hard to tell).

Just remove that rest and all should be well.

Hi Janus, but I was not able to do that. I had to cut the bar, copy the preceeding bar after and go back and put in the triplets…

Christian, thank you, but I am still having problems. Again Dorico limits how you can do Glisses and Ties, and Slurs depending on your content. your example did not help me for this bar. The only way to do this is work backwards, and it’s impossible for me to create independent slurs or ties in this case. Finale it was never an issue.

I added a second gif video.

Christian, thank you, again but it’s impossible for me to create all the ties and slurs that I want from bar 80 to 81, as I am trying to tie from the first beat of bar 80 to the first eighth on the second beat, create a gliss slur over beat 2, tie the C# and so on… If I can’t resolve this, I will have to put this project into Finale and switch to Sibelius until Dorico can fix these glitches… The gliss by itself I understand, but you still have to work backwards. If Dorico can simply allow what I am trying to do, someone kindly show me. If not, I have to quit now and resume on Finale sadly…

@brianjmark, I make a further attempt to explain the needed steps to obtain what you want, in this video (with audio this time):

Thank you Christian, i am not sure if that will solve the issue, but I can’t find the Slur column under the properties panel as you show in your video. Again thanks a bunch for your generous responses…

If you select the slur (and only the slur!), the properties that affect the slur, and that can be changed, will appear in the Properties Panel.
