This is a big band chart.
I am writing the piano part after much of the rest of the score is in place.
In this one instance I have a couple horns playing a line in harmony with the same rhythm. I want to copy those two lines to the right hand of the piano.
I was able to do it by copying the first part, adding a voice, and copying the other part onto the same staff, BUT that’s ugly - with a whole other set of stems and beams.
Of course I could simply enter the notes again into the piano part - in this cast it is just a few - but it just seems like there should be an easy way to accomplish the task without jumping through a bunch of hoops.
I hope I understand you correctly and can explain what I think might be the solution:
First you select all of the horns you want to copy.
Then select the treble stave of the Piano and right click. There should be options to expand (the opposite of what you want) and reduce (?). The horns should then be reduced to the right hand of the piano. Let me know if it works
Thank you. Yes - that works: Paste Special/Reduce - And thanks again, I did not know that move.
But why is it making it so messy? In this case, I copied 4 trumpet voices (with identical rhythm and articulation) into right hand of piano, but it makes instead of 4 notes on one stem for each chord, I get 2 notes on each of 2 stems for each chord - really messy to ask a piano player to look at, especially since it is just part of the piano part, not a score reduction.
Of course there are other things that I could do, and other more labor intensive ways of doing exactly what I want, but it seems that a program as modern and generally well designed as Dorico should make this really easy and obvious.
Love you guys - and thanks again for responding as I wander in the wilderness
By now I have messed with enough to predict how it will behave - I surely appreciate your help. It is truly a value to be able to expand and reduce on the fly like that - it is exactly what I was looking for - and after I spend enough time with it, perhaps I will get it to do just what I want - yea! We all want the “do what I want” button.
