I’m getting a small timing offset when trying to copy / paste volume automation, even when I make sure the files are exactly the same length. The offset isn’t crazy, somewhere around 500ms give or take. But it’s enough to require a lot of adjustments. Is there a step / precaution I’m missing?
Longer explanation- When an artist decides they want to send me a remix, ideally I would be able to copy any volume / plugin automation to the new mix. But this time offset necessitates I have both envelopes visible and manually match each one. I’ll need to hover the mouse over the original point to find the level, then on the new mix make a new point and match the level. Sometimes on more dynamically challenged mixes this could be a hundred points or more, and I’ll also automate the analog capture. So a big time suck.
Secondary question- is there a way to copy a plugin and its automation info to another track? Or do I need to copy / paste the plugin, select the parameter to automate and draw in / paste the automation points? If there was a way to copy the plugin along with all of the automation info, that’d be a very cool and useful feature. But I’ll 100% settle on finding out how to accurately paste automation envelopes.
If you speak about the volume automation, then there is an explanation and a solution. This automation is divided into 3 independent parts: the fade-in, the body part, the fade-out part. When you use the copy/paste functions (Envelope Ribbon), only the body part is copied. If you want a 100% copy, you need to copy/paste in turn the fade-in, envelope, and fade-out part.
This was conceived a long time ago, and to be frank, there should be the option to copy/paste all parts (fades and body) in one operation. I note this for the future.
Thank you … what is ‘missing’ is just the cut + paste of just a section of the body part.
As an example: the chorus might have a very subtle volume envelope automation. After copying that section of the body part (using the ribbon) I do not seem to be able to paste it elsewhere on the clip where there is an identical chorus.
Maybe I am missing something. It’s not a big issue but like I say it is one of those few things that I miss from another DAW.
Yesterday I found that by matching the track lengths and fade in/ outs exactly, the automation paste worked. But copying the fade in and out is even better. And yes I’d 100% love a way to do all of this a bit quicker / easier.
For that second part of my question (copy/pasting a clip plugin and having the automation info paste as well), I’m guessing that’s not possible at this point?
Also- thank you for having an open portal to ask questions and give feedback, and for responding so quickly, consistently. I love wavelab for many reason, and that’s definitely one of them.
