I enter midi notes one at a time (which results in a velocity of 100 for each note), and record over the track to input CC1 & CC11 curves (which provides the desired CC curves). Playback works as expected, the track responding to the curves (and not the velocity). When I try to apply a curve (copy/paste) to another track, the curve isn’t recognized and only follows the velocity lane, even though the original track seems to ignore the velocity lane. My goal is to apply the same CC curves to each track of a section (e.g., strings, brass, etc.), but I can’t seem to find the magic process to do that. (I’m actually running Nuendo 14, but seems to work the same as Cubase.)
Hi,
It depends on the instrument, which MIDI CCs does it accept.
Do you use the same instrument for all sections? Does the instrument respond to MIDI CCs1 & 11?
Are you sure, you pasted it to the correct MIDI Part? Is the MIDI Track’s Channel set to Any or a specific value?
In some instruments you have the option to switch between using velocity or MIDI CC for dynamics control. If your instrument has such an option, make sure it is set correctly.
Thanks for the responses. For a test, I kept it simple: I use only Iconica Sections and Players running on the Halion Sonic 7 engine. Violins 1, 2, Violas…so yes, same instrument. All Steinberg. Midi inputs set to all, the instruments are all assigned to midi ch 1.
The Dynamics Controller is set to Modulation, but it behaves the same whether I select Velocity or Modulation. The audio out corresponds to the Velocity, but I can see the Mod wheel on the on-screen keyboard tracking the CC1 curve. Doesn’t seem to matter whether I input the CC1 curve with the pencil tool or put it in record mode and use the mod wheel on the little Arturia keyboard I have. Both result in a curve displayed on the CC1 lane, and the mod wheel indicator moves with the curve on playback. I’m obviously not selecting something properly.
Hi,
Does it mean, you are using just an Instrument Tracks? No multi-timbral?
Could you describe your project, please? Our attach a screenshot of MixConsole with the Routing tab expanded?
The MIDI CCs are MIDI Channel based.
Thank you. The project is a string quartet using Halion Sonic 7 as the instrument, a total of 4 tracks, all midi. Each track uses one Iconica Sections & Players patch (Violins 1, 2, Violas, Celli). See screenshots.
Hi,
Could you attach the same screenshots of the Celli track, please?
There is no content on the celli track. This is only a test to get CC 1 & 11 working, so I only entered content on one track, Violins 1. Also, the CC 1 data shown is arbitrary; it’s only a test and isn’t meaningful from a musical context.
Hi,
I’m sorry, then I probably don’t understand this:
My apologies, sorry for the confusion. Testing results are inconsistent, so I’ll take a step back and explore further before bothering people in this forum. In short, sometimes a copy/paste works, sometimes it doesn’t. Seems to be mostly with CC1 as CC7 and 11 respond more reliably. Again, thanks for your help.
Ok, after some testing, it seems that using the dynamics part of the Articulations/Dynamics lane causes interference. Things work properly if I turn off that lane and set the Expression Map to No Map, but I still need to use the articulations. Even if I turn off Dynamics in the Dynamics Mapping setup, there is still intermittent interference with the Modulation control. So, is there a way to delete only the Dynamics midi data? Else I need to delete the entire track and start over with the articulations.
Hi,
Could you make a video screen recording, please?
