Copying a score layout to a different score/project

I worked through condensing in Someday score

And copied the layout into the Valdez score and uncondensed is fine

When I condense it I get this

Bari shoved between the altos and tenors. The solo violin mixed in with the bones.

here is a link to the two scores

any advice appreciated.

Hi @cccm, there are many things that are not set appropriately in your files.

For example in Valdez:

  • manual staff spacings. Reset them from menu Engrave>Staff>Spacings>Reset layout
  • Layout Options>Vertical Spacing>Minimum Gaps: you have Staff to Staff set to 13 (!) instead of the default 6
  • in Layout Options>Vertical Spacing>Collision Avoidance, the first value default is 1, and you have 1 7/8
  • in Layout Options>Vertical Spacing>Vertical Justification you deactivated Justify staves when frame with single system is above this threshold
  • you have page overrides on page 1 and 2: remove them right clicking on the page icons in Engrave mode right panel
  • your Paper size is set to letter, which is very small for such a big setup. Consider using a bigger paper size, so you don’t need such a little space size
  • etc…

In Someday:

  • you created custom page templates. But you have an override on page 1, so you are not using the custom First Landscape PT.
  • after removing the page overrides, you need to edit the First Landscape PT, because the Music Frame overlaps other text frames:
  • etc…

Here the two partially corrected files (I used A3 paper size, but you can customise it…). I didn’t check everything but maybe can be a start…
Interestingly the file size is now 1/20 then before: 2mb instead of 44mb.
Of course if you want to merge the two files, some work is necessary for the Page Templates, or possibly the Flow headings, which you can customise with the necessary text frames…
I tried to merge the two projects, but it seems that you didn’t use the same template: the merging generated some duplicated players (I didn’t went any further…).

Such a quick response resulting in a quick fix. Thanks as I don’t recall making all those changes in Valdez.

Oh and I meant to add that I print on 81/2 and 11. I don’t have a printer that prints A3 size.

Were you the creator of that file - or did you get it from someone else?
Did your file start as an .xml import?

Thinking back I watched a youtube showing how the presenter sets up his layout. I probably did change those settings based on the video.
