I have met this problem since early versions. Don’t remember which.
If instrument that supports many channels and many ports is in Rack mode and I add new MIDI track, it automatically increases port number. If I change MIDI port to next one, it would be nice that channel counting will start from first available - for new port it would be 1, but if there are MIDI tracks added to the specified instrument in specified port, then Cubase should search first available channel. If there isn’t any free channel, a message box would open.
Every time when working with templates I met this and it is very disturbing. Especially working with VEPro. I’m sure there are thousands of users met this but silently continue to “enjoy” this
