Hello! Question about Cubase.
How can we find out which CC a knob in the Remote Control Editor corresponds to?
I use the Middle East VST of KONTAKT. One of its parameters is the “scale” with which the various types of scales are alternated. I can influence it through the Automation track, opening it through the “More/Kontakt/scale” option, I see it as a knob in the Remote Control Editor, but I would like to know (and in general) its correspondence with CC so that in Dorico I can program scale changes. And in general I would be interested in information. It would be nice if there was a relevant map in every VST manual, but unfortunately we don’t often come across this. Thank you for your time!
Hi,
Click on Edit MIDI Controller Surface. Then click on the controller. You can see the assigned MIDI CC on the right side.
So, you want to know which CC controls the scale parameter by default in Kontakt? So you can use this information to enter it by hand in Dorico?
Hi,
Oh, I probably didn’t understand the questino.
In this case, there is a MIDI assignment view in Kontakt.
Thank you for clarifying my wording. Yes, that’s exactly what I mean. I want to know what the controller is so I can create a related scale change command in Dorico.
Thank you for the answer that seems to shed some light! I will try it and let you know.
Have you tried enabling Automation Record on the Track and during playback change the control a few times. Then see what data got recorded by Selecting a Data Point & examining the Info Line.
I think you need to discover this from within Kontakt, standalone even. In Cubase, the automation track controls the parameter directly, there’s no CC involved. When you do it through the MIDI remote, again Cubase takes whichever CC you have on your device (pot, encoder) and binds it to the parameter directly.
But from within Kontakt, there could be a page where default CC assignments are set, so that you could play Kontakt standalone with a MIDI controller for example. I’m not that familiar with Kontakt so I can’t give you exact directions, sorry.
Thank you very much for the answer! I had a feeling that this is how things are, and you confirm it. At least I won’t waste my time trying anymore. Unfortunately, KONTAKT is secretive on this subject. I have read the manual in detail and unfortunately there is neither a relevant chapter nor a map. It is a shame, because potential possibilities of this particular VST remain unexploited. However, I will contact KONTAKT, if I manage to find a contact, in case I get some information.
Thank you for the answer. Your idea is correct, but unfortunately KONTAKT MiddleEast does not respond to the influence of an external midi controller (I have Minilab II) except for the volume and modwheel as well as specific key switches. All other fields are changed only with mouse selections.
Although I see this particular automation (scale) in the remote control editor, no knob on the Minilab II can “learn” to affect any automation in KONTAKT MiddleEast, which is not the case with other VSTs, such as Halion, UVI, etc.
If you’re willing to wait, my cousin has the plug-in, so I’ll dig inside a bit and see what I can find, in the next 4 hours or so. Should I send you a message?
Yes please! Thank you very much!
