Courtesy key

Hello everyone. Could you please tell me how to hide courtesy key and time signature changes at the end of a system in Dorico? Please see the attached screenshot. Thanks in advance!

With the Key signature selected. Lower (properties) panel.

You can also set this on a per-flow basis (if you have Pro or Elements) in Notation Options.

However, if you want to hide cautionary key signatures and time signatures because you intend each line to be a separate piece of music, like in a worksheet of multiple separate exercises, you should consider using a separate flow for each chunk of music.

Thanks a lot, Jesper for your helpful replies — everything’s clear now!

Regarding the cautionary key signatures, I can’t find any “cautionary at end of system” option in the Properties panel — am I missing something?

By the way, I’m using Dorico 5.1.81.2225 on both a Mac and a MacBook.
I’m thinking of upgrading to Dorico Pro 6, but only on one device.
Would it cause any issues to have two different versions, or when opening a file created on one system with the other version?

Thanks again for your help and kind support!
Best wishes,
Beppe

That might be a new property in Dorico 6.

Jesper

I think this is a Dorico 6 feature… time to update?

Don’t worry, you don’t have to write the same reply twice to different users, you could just tag us both in the same reply

The property was in Dorico 5.1. Have you definitely selected a key signature first, then checked the Properties panel? Are all properties shown in the Properties panel? (ie have you checked that there isn’t a search term filter active, or that you haven’t set the Properties panel to show only Local or Global properties, or only Active properties?)

Check the options at the top of the Properties panel.

Dorico 5 is able to open files from Dorico 6, but notations specific to version 6 (like this hidden cautionary) will not render correctly. In fact, the program warns you about this when opening such a file. But buying Dorico 6 will not overwrite your license for version 5, and the two installations can peacefully coexist on the same system. The only limitation is running them at the same time. And possibly storage space.

Thanks so much, Lillie — and yes, you’re right, I didn’t need to reply separately!

I’m still a bit unsure, though. I’m attaching a screenshot (I hope it’s clear enough).
When I select a clef, the Properties panel does not show the same “courtesy at end of system” option that appears for time signatures and key signatures.

For time and key signatures, the “courtesy” option is visible in the Properties panel, but for clefs it simply doesn’t appear — even when I’ve made sure there are no filters active (Global/Local/Active properties, empty search field, etc.).

So my question is: in Dorico 5.1.81, where can I find the control for courtesy clefs?

Thanks again for your patience and help!

Thanks a lot for your very clear explanation, that really helps.
It’s good to know that Dorico 5 and 6 can coexist without issues, and that the only limitation is running them at the same time.
I’ll keep in mind the warning about opening files created in version 6 on version 5.

Thanks again!
