Crackling sound after applying an LFO modulator

Hello, I have a problem with the LFO modulator in Cubase 14 Pro. When I load any sound whether from a plug-in or a sample and run the LFO modulation on it - at volume, the sound starts crackling. I don’t know where this is coming from. I tried changing various parameters but it doesn’t help. Does anyone have any idea what it could be ? If I use the FX Modulator on the insert to modulate the volume, there is no crackling… If I bypass the modulation effect for a while and gently move the volume slider, the crackling disappears. I don’t know what the issue is here…

Hi,

Could you try to increase the Buffer Size, please?

Hello Martin! I currently have a buffer set in low latency mode with a size of 512 samples. Input latency 12,177 samples, output latency 15,147 samples. This is the optimal setting for me but I will try to increase the latency and see what happens.

I changed the buffer size to 768 samples and now the sound is clear. I don’t really understand why this is happening… The LFO itself is not complicated and I don’t think it requires much CPU processing power…

Hi,

The LFO itself is just a trigger. But the destination is “automated”, therefore it requires some CPU usage.

Still seems weird that putting a slow lfo to automate a channel volume would require 1024 samples of buffer, when the project runs fine at 32 without the modulator…

best regards Johannes
