Good afternoon everyone, I recently put in a support ticket but I wanted to reach out here in case anyone could provide me with some guidance or advice that may help me solve cubase 12 from crashing. I recently built a new PC, got a new audio interface (UA apollo x8p), upgraded to cubase 12, and upgraded to windows 11, so there are a lot of variables. I was previously on cubase 10.5 and rarely had any issues and other than the audio interface changing, most everything I am attempting to do is the same as I did it on that verison. It typically crashes when I am trying to record audio, almost every time when I stop the recording, cubase crashes completely and closes itself. In safe mode of cubase it is much more stable but I have had crashes when doing the same there, but much more infrequent. I went in and clicked the “hide” button on all the VST’s that are below VST 3.0, that made it slightly more stable, but not near perfect as it still crashes when I stop an audio recording, or sometimes when I am just in a menu like preferences or studio set up. Below is the lasted crash report from the windows reliability monitor, there isn’t much I can gather from it to determine what exactly is going on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I haven’t written/recorded music in a few weeks now so I am starting to get a little agitated and need me some of the sweet relief that comes from creating music again. Thank you for reading, really hope someone can help me get this problem or problems solved.
Hi and welcome to the forum,
Attach the source *.dmp file, please.
This is from an earlier crash today but it doesn’t represent the frequent crashes while trying to record audio that I am experiencing. The issue that causes cubase to exit doesn’t seem to create a crashdump file in the folder. The program just closes real fast, no hanging up or freezing or anything like that, it just immediately closes.

Hi,
As you did so many changes, I would recommend to reinstall the Audio Device’s driver, make sure, you install it as administrator. I would also reinstall Cubase 12 as administrator. I would also recommend to delete all Cubase versions Preferences folders.
Cubase Preferences folders are:
Mac: ~/Library/Preferences/Cubase X
Win: %appData% Steinberg/Cubase X_64
Hello Martin. Just interesting. If I will delete the preferences from %appData% Steinberg/Cubase X_64. Does I need to reinstall Cubase? Or the preferences will be created automatically when I will start my Cubase 12?
Hi,
Yes, Cubase will create the preferences folder during the next start. You will get the factory settings.
Perfect. Thank you very much! Should I need to delete the folder or just the files in this folder?
Hi,
The best practice is to ZIP the folder(s) (as a backup) and then delete them (the complete folder(s)).

Hi,
Most likely, the crash is related to the Archetype Tim Henson.vst3 plug-in. Could you verify, the crash happens or not, if you don’t use this plug-in while recording, please?
Hey thanks for looking at the dump file. I have since addressed this issue (fingers crossed). It didn’t seem to be related to that plugin, I do use it as an FX but I record the DI guitar with out having it active at the time of recording, I drag the DI recording down to a track that has outputs to the FX track with the plug in active.
What seemed to be the issue I think was BFD3. The VST for it is version 2.4 but the verison of the vst doesn’t seem to have been the issue. I downloaded the newest version of the licensing software, and that allowed me to get the newest update (I couldn’t previously because I had a different version of the licensing software). When I did that I unhid the VST and Cubase 12 has been stable since. I have a whole bunch of other native instrument and UAD plug ins hid/disabled now so I am not sure if I try to use them in the future if I will have an issue again, and I am guessing once cubase eliminates all support for vst2 plugins I will have an issue with BFD3 at that time, but for now it seems all good.
