Crazy Idea, Or Not? Available Multiplier Append When Entering Dynamics

Not sure if this is a crazy idea or not, nor do I have any idea how workable it would be on the programming side, but it occurred to me that it might be useful when entering dynamics if one could append (after a comma?) a multiplier that would scale the entered playback dynamics. I know we can enter dynamics curves in a control lane, but it seems far easier to be able to control dynamics on the fly when writing and see everything you are doing right in the notation during entry.

There are times I might want to keep an official notated dynamic “p” but attenuate playback.

Example: I enter a piano dynamic, but find playback needs to be scaled down a bit. If I entered SHIFT + D, “p, .8” I would get the dynamic scaled down to 80% of book value. This would be highly adaptible to making such adjustments on the fly as well as make them easily discernible.

Thoughts?

On its face I don’t find this an especially compelling idea, albeit after only a moment’s thought.

Thanks for chiming in with your reaction, Daniel.

… it has its uses for sure. Notion allows one to do this, p +1 (can’t remember exact syntax) played back as mp etc.

With the controller lanes in Dorico, though, I don’t miss the functionality at all.
