Create a pickup bar of three eighth notes (non triplet)

Hello all. On a Mac OS, I know how to create a pickup bar of a quarter note pickup, but I’m not sure how to create a pickup bar consisting of only three eighth notes in a 3/4 time signature. Does anyone have a nice solution for this. I can’t seem to find directions on how to do this? The notes I have showing are the only notes I’d like to see in that pickup bar. =)

It follows the same rules as any other pickup. 3 quavers is 1.5 beats in 3/4, so Shift-M 3/4,1.5

I’m not an Insert mode expert, but I think if you turn Insert mode on and then just delete the rests at the beginning, the music will shift back etc?

How do I do that without the first beat of every measure moving backwards into the previous measure?

I did that. Unfortunately, the first beat of the measure after keeps shifting back into the previous measure.

Make sure that the Insert Mode scope is set to Global Adjustment of Current Bar

Whelp I still couldn’t figure out how to set the Global Adjustment of Current Bar, however I figured out a way to do this in write mode. What I did, is I highlighted both rests in the treble and bass clef of the first bar, went to edit and clicked on remove rests. Then I clicked on that same measure, did shift+M and entered 3/4,1.5 and hit enter. It created a new measure with those three eighth notes containing the time signature. I then clicked on the time signature in the first measure, hit shift+b and entered -1 then enter. I was able to get my desired result. Thank you for your efforts in problem solving this issue.

You click and hold on the Insert button in Left Zone. Or, use the key command Alt/Opt+I to cycle between the scopes.

Ahhhhh, cool. That will get stored in my mental notes for next time. Thank you.

Hi @GeorgeMaster , maybe for future reference this post can be useful?:

I can’t resist adding in my experience when first learning Dorico and entering pickup measures. I had decided to engrave part of a slow movement of a Mozart piano sonata. It started with a 128th note. Without a calculator, quick, tell me what the decimal equivalent to enter in the Meter popover is. (No need to tell me now, it was a few years ago and I figured it out, but it does raise the question, why can’t we enter a fraction value instead of only a decimal value)?

Perhaps it might be just a bit too risky/confusing with all the variants of popover entries (which include the slash symbol) that are available to use?

I notice you have a bracket and barline override - if you don’t want any brackets in this layout, there’s an option for that in Library > Layout Options > Brackets and Braces.

Making adjustments to the bracketing rules there rather than manually overriding them is generally more robust.
