What expression map should I be using for Pianoteq? Do I have to create my own? I know nothing about this area of Dorico.
Generally the Default map works perfectly.
The first question is: What MIDI controls are there in the Pianoteq instrument? The Pianoteq manual should give details.
Generally, pianos use Note Velocity to control dynamics (e.g. how hard/fast you press the keys), and this is what Dorico’s Default Ex map does.
Dorico’s sends the ‘standard’ CCs for Pedal sustain, sostenuto and una corda (CC64, 66 and 67) without needing to be set in an Ex map.
So you’ll really only need to create a custom Expression map if there are any other controls for Pianoteq. Many piano instruments have things like timbre, lid settings, which you might want to set in the Init expression, but which are unlikely to be changed during playback.
Those sort of things can be set in the instrument itself in Pianoteq, and saved as a preset. No need for any init expression.
Well, there you are, then. Job done! ![]()
