I am brand new to Dorico currently using the free demo. My purchase is dependent upon if I am able to create a chord chart from a midi/XML file created from my DAW. Is this possible and if so, how? Any help is much appreciated.
Hi @buddyjordan, and welcome to the Forum.
Which DAW do you use?
-
Cubase can export a Dorico file directly, ready to use and with all chord symbols.

-
I just tried with Logic and if you input your chords into the score editor in Logic, and export as XML, opening it with Dorico will show the chord symbols
(I admit that opening the score editor in Logic, now that I am used to the wonderful score editor in Cubase 15, was like going back 20 years…
)
In Dorico you can then display the chord symbols and/or chord diagrams as desired.
If you upload a screenshot of a desired visualisation example, we can give advice on how to obtain it in Dorico.
Thank you for your reply. I really need Dorico to do all of that for me. As of now it shows the individual notes of the chord but it is not naming the chord. If you know how I can make that happen I’d be so appreciative.
Thank you
You can generate chord symbols from notes.
Select the notes and do right-click>chord symbols and diagrams>generate chord symbols from selection… and follow the dialogue options.
Thank you!!!
