I can’t figure out how to create, or modify globally, chord symbols in pro 6, even after watching A Hughes’ video several times. As an example, I want to create a C major 7 with augmented 5th, and have it appear “CM7+5”. The default major 7 chord, “CM7”, is perfect, with a superscript M7 using a smaller than the chord root. But adding the “+5” (same superscript and point size) is proving impossible. Who can help me out here?
Thanks, TonH. I fixed all of these preferences, but the chord symbol always comes as “CM7#5” (chord suffix as superscript) in the “Project default chord symbol appearances” window. No matter what I do I cannot change the “#” to “+”. Then, when I try to add the chord in a lead sheet using the chord popover, typing “cma7+5” always comes up “CM7#5”.
Could you share a project which shows this problem? Could be just 1 bar with the chord.
I’d be happy to share the project, which is just a testing of all chord symbol possibilities, but I don’t know how to do that.
When you reply to the forum, drag the project file in .
Or use this button

Untitled Project 7.dorico (717.5 KB) Thanks. Here it is:
Most of the chords symbols are exactly as I’d like them to appear. The problems I’m encountering are with CM7+5, C7+5 and C-M7 (which come up CM7#5, C7+ and C-(MA7). I did take your suggestion to change “appearance of accidentals” to “plus and minus”, but that screwed up my C-7b5 chord. I switched back to “plus and flat”.
This is good, but I’d like the -M7 to be superscript.
Perfect!
Again, perfect. (I figured that out just before seeing your reply
).
One last issue: The M7 suffix is too close to the root. I’ve tried to correct that Chord Symbol Kerning Pairs, to no avail. How can I widen that space a little for all potential roots?
This chord

does not respond to any of these settings
I’m thinking this might be caused by some custom override, but I can’t find it.
Hopefully someone with more experience can help you out.
I learned some things today ![]()
Yes, that is strange. I’m wondering if the chord can be created from scratch using the “Chord Symbols … “ window. In any event, many thanks for your help with all of this!
Sorry, don’t know.
I would expect it to be here, but can’t find it.
(But I’m still on 6.0 , maybe 6.1 shows something there)
Go to Library → Chord Symbols
Enter Cmaj7(+5) and click the + button (1)
Click the button between star and bin (2)
Perfetto !! Worked like a charm. All good. Just need to figure out that space after the root, but I can live with all of this for now.
New problems. I want to create the following chord symbols (using the common root C): C7(b9), C7(#9), C7(#11), C7(b13), CM7(#11). I’ve been successful with the C7(b9) but with none of the rest (haven’t yet attempted CM7(#11)). The superscripts are all too high. None of the careful adjustments I’ve made repeatedly to align them with the C7(b9) in the “Project Default Chord Symbol Appearances” window hold when I try to include them in the score. I click the “save as default” star every time, click ok, return to the score, fail bring up the corrected symbol, return to “chord symbols …”, and find that the changes again haven’t been recorded. And, by the way, the “Apply to all roots” button is never available. I’m at a loss.
