I have been trying to input a dotted minim but no success, which creates a tied note. Yes, I have followed all the rules and watched all the vids , but still no joy, what am I doing wrong. It shouldn´t be this difficult to input a dotted minim or a dotted anything, which is so easy in Sibelius .
We’d need to know the context. If Dorico creates two tied notes instead of a dotted half, it’s related to the Notation Options and/or to the Time Signature.
But anyway you can always get exactly what you want by pressing letter O (Force Duration) before entering the note.

Can you show us exactly what you’re trying to do?
As Charles says: it will depend on the time signature, the Notation Options, and what you’re trying to do. There are some circumstances where it is usually better (clearer/more standard) to split the note across beats, but you can override this with Force Duration.
