I’ve completed a movement in my orchestral suite, and when adding another flow, I end up with all of the notes from the first flow in Flow 2 rather than blank staffs with the same instruments. This does not appear to be normal based on the instructional video for Finale transition. Any help with correcting this or creating a second blank flow would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Did you duplicate the flow or create a new one?
Did you perhaps duplicate the flow, rather than create a new flow?
I clicked add new flow, either using the button at the bottom of the setup screen or in the payback drop down menu, with the same effect. I’m not sure of the difference between duplicating rather than creating a new flow. Ideas? Thank you
I meant…setup drop down menu…
To delete a flow if you need to, in Setup mode, right-click on the flow in the lower zone for options.
You can Zoom out then double click on a flow and it should show.
Duplicating will duplicate everything from that flow, which is probably what you did.
New Flow is an empty one - Setup mode, Setup menu > New flow
I clicked add flow, either using the button at the bottom of the setup screen or in the setup drop down menu, with the same effect. I’m not sure of the procedure for duplicating rather than creating a new flow, but it seems that I am using the procedure for adding a new one. Any further ideas? Thank you
After following this suggestion (Setup mode, Setup menu > New flow), I still end up with a Flow 2 containing all of the notations from Flow 1. Is there another setting I’m missing? Many thanks
Just to confirm, you are definitely seeing both flows following each other, right? (meaning if you scroll through enough you see the same flow twice, repeated).
Just wondering if you are actually looking at flow 1, thinking it is flow 2, that’s all.
I think that you have solved my problem. I now notice that the original Flow 1 score is still there, and that Flow 2 begins on the last page with the correct instrument lineup and only one measure to start writing in. It looks like I can start with that one measure and expand the number of measures to create the new movement (Flow 2) content. Does this sound correct? And thank you everyone for your help.
Yes great news! you can just start with your time sig and key sig, if it has them, and begin inputting notes, Dorico adds barlines etc. as you go along. Have fun.
Yes. When you create a new flow Dorico gives you a single crotchet rest - feel free to add a time signature and add as many bars as you want and carry on composing.
@Jharris and feel free to ask if you have further problems, you can see you can have a bunch of us willingly helping with answers
Many thanks. Your assistance is much appreciated.
