I am putting together a “book” of viola arrangements. I have loaded each individual viola/piano score into Dorico 5 (using on MacBook Air 2023). Each is in an individual flow. I am needing to extract viola parts and put them at the end - each in their own flow. Is there an easy way to do this or do I have import them individually? Thanks in advance.
Welcome to the forum, @Daniel_Michael_Blomd!
Are you looking to have all of the viola/piano flows followed by all of the viola flows? Or to have each viola/piano flow followed by the appropriate viola flow? Or something else?
@asherber i’m wanting the viola/piano parts to all go in order and then have just the viola parts all at the end of the book in the same order
I don’t think there’s a good way of doing that entirely within Dorico. Your best bet is probably to export the Full Score and viola layouts separately as PDFs and then use some PDF utility to join them.
what you are asking is very interesting, and I think I came out with a solution.
It needs advanced editing of customised Page Templates and their Music Frame Chains (and players filters of the chains). All done in Engrave mode, in the Full Score Layout.
Here the two needed custom Page Templates First for viola and Default for viola (I created them based on the original First and Default, but deleting the music frames and recreating them, so they are not linked anymore to their originals):
They will be applied to newly created pages in Engrave Mode (remove the page override from those pages, after inserting the page template change!). [To understand the different green edges of the pages icons, see Page format changes ]:
Result:
Dorico file example:
setup to show the part at end of score.dorico (1.8 MB)
(You may want also to show the page numbers above flow headings:)
That’s very good, @Christian_R! I tried something similar but couldn’t get it to work. I think the step I missed was deleting and recreating the music frames, so that the player filter could be set separately.
