Is there a way to label song sections when creating chord charts? These would be where staff labels usually show up, but editable per system. In Finale I used group names for this.

Welcome to the forum, Cameron. In general you can’t change staff labels for the same instrument system by system, so you’ll need to employ another approach.
Possibly the simplest one would be to use a section player (docs here), and then use a divisi change at each point where you need the staff label to change (docs here). In the divisi dialog, create a single divisi section (if you create more than one, you’ll get an extra staff), and edit the name of the section, which will then be used as the staff label from the next system.

The only thing I’m wrestling with now is how to decrease the space between the label and the beginning of the staff. Is this adjustable?
Yes, using the options on the Staff Labels page of Engraving Options.
