Hello. I have Dorico Elements 3.5. I would like to start by creating three treble clefs in my score. How do I go about this?
Hi @stevensd380, and welcome back.
Do you mean create there staves with treble clef?
Create a new project from the Menu or create an empty project from the Hub, then in Setup mode you can add a new single player and choose Sketch>Treble staff. Then you can right click on it and choose Duplicate Player, or repeat the process. (The instrument will sound as a piano per default).
Yes, three treble clef staves. I can get to the set up mode what do I do from there?
Add three players who would normally play instruments that use a treble clef?
(Dorico is ridiculously obvious)
Follow the numbers in my screenshot.
No it isnāt. Unless you have a real answer then ā¦
Can you make the screenshots bigger so that I can see them please
It is a real answer.
Just try adding three players (shift-P) that use treble clef instruments (choose from the plethora of instruments that Dorico knows about).
If you donāt know exactly what instruments you want, choose from the Sketch section as @Christian_R suggested)
You can click on the picture and then you can perfectly zoom in.
Iām very sorry. Iām too old to work with this Dorico software. I canāt make any sense of it.
Iām sorry you feel this way. Some users here have reached an advanced age and they are using this tool effectively. Maybe we fellow users have not been able to understand what your question was. Letās try to fix this so that you donāt feel lost.
In Setup mode (cmd-1 on mac), you have that button at the bottom of the left panel (players panel) that lets you add one player (labeled 1 in Christianās screenshot). You could also press Shift-P
The instrument picker appears, you pick whatever instrument you need (steps 2,3 and 4 in the picture)
Rinse and repeat or use the duplicate player button (or alt-shift-cmd-P)
Once those players are created, you can switch to Write mode (cmd-2) and start writing music!
Iām no spring chicken (nearing 66), but have never understood Finale! For me, Dorico is a breeze. We can help you too.
Youngster.

Hello, have you looked at the First steps guide?
Many start learning new software by looking through beginner videos a few times or something like this guide so they get to know some of the basics, otherwise, clicking around and looking at the menus and windows is probably unlikely to give you any idea how it works or what to do or where to look. It can be very satisfying working through a tutorial like this, and if you have problems with it, someone here can help.
If you want other beginner links, videos etc. then feel free to ask and someone will post some here. I could add some now but it might be overwhelming if you get too many.
Hello Christian
I have the 'Empty-handed Player. On the following list of instruments there is no āSketchā. It goes from āSingersā to āStringsā.
That is because you are using Dorico 3.5 (The sketch instruments were added later)
Hello Janus
Is it then possible for me to create three treble clef staffs on the version of Dorico I have? And what should I upgrade to?
Thanks
Of course. Just pick an instrument that normally uses treble clef (eg. violin) and rename it to whatever you want.
Do you know of the user manual for v3.5?
Would it be helpful for general reference for you?
There is some information starting on page 95 related to adding players.
If you see a search field, type in āviolinā as @Janus suggests, or try āleadā or ātrebleā for example and see if there are any matches.
Hi @stevensd380, I made a short video with all the steps you need to create your three treble staves in Dorico 3.5:
