which Cubase version and OS are you on?
Are you running any background processes like OneDrive which might prevent Cubase from writing files?
How big is your project? Do you have enough disk space on that particular drive?
Have you tried “Save As” under a different location, too?
Cubase 13.0.55.328 (according to get info on Cubase in Mac)
As for your questions:
I do have a Google Drive app that auto syncs everything and it was not responding when I searched for it, however I force quit it and the error message continue in Cubase (and the Google Drive app relaunched and it’s now working fine).
The project’s folder is 31.9 GB for 8,051 items. I have > 1TB to use on my computer
I tried saving the project (.cpr file) to another location - when going Save As the Folders browser opens up, and then no matter what’s the chosen destination (even tried with Desktop) this error message pops out again.
As previously stated, just doing “save “ pops the message immediatly
The folder structure is:
Main Folder (for let’s say Song A) (31.9 GB)
Song A
Audio folders (both recorded on Cubase and other Audio files)
Edits
Images
Many .cpr and .bak files (different versions and backups)
Mix Phase folder (10 GB)
Many .cpr and .bak files **including the .cpr in question (**10-14± MB)
I’ll also ask - is there any channel for official technical support from Steinberg for these cases?
Perhaps @Martin.Jirsak will know? (Sorry for the tag but I’m really in a pickle here)
This is the full path - /Users/royteicher/Desktop/Music Production/Cubase Projects/0.1 My First Album/1 מפלצת הגרוב/Post Mix Stems/מפלצת הגרוב מיקס 5.4.cpr’
I closed the project, relaunched it and said yes to ‘open more recent backup’ - then the .bak file renamed itself to .cpr with a suffix of -01.
Tried to save it and got that error message again.
Then did File > Backup project and continue with the default setting and now I could save it!
So thanks for the tip, I’m up and running with it, but I am still really curious to know what could be the cause of all this and how to avoid. File >Backup project was a nice workaround but I’d love to not experience this again lol
Did you back up your project into a similar folder and with a similar name? I’m going to investigate the non-English symbols. I know, Cubase is tested with multiple different symbols (especially Chinese and Japanese, as these are the officially supported languages), but there might be a symbol set which might lead to some unknown issues.
These are Hebrew letters, I know it’d be best practice to have all project names in English, however I’ve been using Hebrew for the project’s titles for years and never encounter a problem.. until now I guess
By default, many .bak files are saved to the same location. When the latest saved work properly - I actually used the exact same number - only with 5.5 instead of 5.4 (the Hebrew words stayed in place)
BTW - Where can I get the official documentation regarding folder structure / .bak files location defaults / etc? I’d love to save my projects more profesionally and with more confidence that I’m doing the right thing.
Instead for me, when I want to save the project, instead of saving it, the save as dialog opens with the Macintosh HD folder. The save function does not work anymore or I am doing something wrong?
