I’m a General Music teacher for elementary (primary) school, and I’m trying to transcribe some rhythmic exercises from Gunild Keetman’s “Rhythmische Ubung.” I’m having a heck of a time figuring out the best way to accomplish Keetman’s cross-staff beaming in Dorico. Take a look at the picture below:
Each system represents one player, playing several levels of body percussion. The most intuitive way I know of to create something like this in Dorico is to create four players, each playing a one-staff-line percussion instrument. Trouble is, doing that doesn’t let me do any of Keetman’s cross-staff beaming, because as far as I’m aware Dorico doesn’t allow for beaming across two different instruments. I suppose I could just use some kind of four-line staff, but I don’t know how I would get the lines spaced out that far. Also, that solution wouldn’t let me do the below:
…where the patschen (Pa.) are split into two lines for two legs, but bracketed as one instrument.
Do I need to create some kind of custom staff or instrument type to accomplish these things, or is there a default in Dorico that can accomplish this?
