Hello. I have a question about how to use Cross Step. Does this feature only work on instruments like the harp or piano? Does it not work on soprano and bass scores in choirs?
You can only cross notes to staves belonging to the same player. If you’re using the Choir player, which has two staves, then you can cross notes between those staves, but if you have separate Soprano/Alto/Tenor/Bass players, then you cannot cross notes between those staves.
Do you really want to cross notes between soprano and bass, or do you just want to move notes from one player to another?
It’s fine. I tried it in a choir and on a piano, but I’m curious, so I asked. I’d like to know how it works. Thank you.
It is more a question for the actual performers, for your singers: If you cross stave a musical line, let us say from Soprano to Bass, who will be actually singing this / how they are going to sing this?
If you want to move notes from one staff to the staff above or below, it’s alt-N and alt-M. Great shortcut, I use it all the time.
I agree. I think it’s only appropriate for use in the range of instruments like the harp or piano. Thank you.
I tried it as you suggested. This method creates a rest and shifts the position of the note column. Could you please explain further? Thank you.
I usually use alt-N or alt-M if I have an old score with two clarinets on a single staff. I use a filter to select the bottom notes (2nd clarinet), and then move them to the next lower staff with alt-M. I’ve been doing that all day today!
Thank you. I will study as you suggested.
FWIW, I’ve had to do this a lot recently, and I found that the Explode function works better for this, because it reproduces articulations and slurs, while Alt+M on a note selection reproduces articulations but not slurs!
You posted a different method than the one I asked, and it was also a valuable learning experience. Thank you.
Hello. I’m using shortcuts, but I don’t quite understand them. What is the F6 shortcut? I also don’t quite understand the Ctrl+F10 part. Thank you.
Sorry, there are my own shortcuts! (F6 = select bottom note, Ctrl+F10 = Explode).
You can assign your own shortcuts to these commands in Preferences > Keycommands.
Thank you. I will do that right away.
!!! Thanks Charles, that is awesome!
