Hello. I’ve been using Cubase Artist 10 on a Mac mini for a few years. My interface is RME Babyface.
I’ve just done a factory reset to clean up my Mac and have reinstalled Cubase and the Babyface drivers with updated firmware. The interface plays sound from sources like Apple Music, Youtube etc.
But with Cubase I’m not getting any audio. VST audio system is set up as normal.
Am I missing something basic?
Thanks!
AFAIK, the Babyface has the same driver as the Fireface UCX one, which is multiclient. So, you should not have problems to get sound from both Cubase and external sources with it.
To set all this, I use the Function > Matrix view in TotalMix window, which IMO, is much more clear than the Mixer view one, routing related. Be sure that you have BOTH external software and Cubase outputs activated for your Hardware Outputs. FWIW, here is my setup (Fireface UCX) :
I guess that the Babyface doesn’t have the same inputs/outputs available, but this should get you the picture : again, both Cubase outputs and external softaware ones should be connected in it on your used hardware outputs.
Hi there. Firstly, thanks so much for engaging so quickly!
Unfortunately I haven’t managed to fix the issue. Here are the relevant windows:
Totalmix default settings
Cubase audio connections (outputs)
And Babyface panel in studio setup
Edit: There is no audio activity in any of the Cubase mixer readouts when playing:
Edit: Just thought I’d add, I’m running Sonoma but unlike many unfortunate souls I’m not getting any graphical problems. In fact, Cubase works normally with the internal sound card selected. Babyface is operating normally with every other sound source except for Cubase. It’s when they get together that there’s a problem…
ok ok ok I have ‘solved’ it…
When updating my Babyface drivers I just took the latest download.
Just noticed a note about the one below being good for Intel (which my Mac is) so I tried that and now it’s working. Leaving this here as this is one piece of advice I haven’t seen on any of my hours long forum diving.
Had the same issue, with a UCX II. This fixed it. Thanks a lot!
