Cubase 11 processing and disk cache overload when charging

Hello there,
thank you for your minute. I am experiencing very annoying dropout spikes when charging the laptop. When i unplug it, dropouts fall dramatically. Did anyone experienced things like this before? I am using Windows 10, Cubase Artist 11, Steinberg audio power scheme, Sounddevices Mixpre-6 (the problem persists on all audio cards), the computer is HP Zbook with i7 4800MQ CPU @ 2,70GHz with 16 gb ram and Nvidia quadro k1100M.

Thank you in advance.

Hi and welcome,

This is quite unusual. More often we can see a drop outs while using the battery, because the computer tries to save an energy, so it lowers its power.

In this case, my guess is, once you plug the charging in, some other application increase its CPU load (significantly), so there is no enough for Cubase anymore.

I don’t want to blame Nvidia, but there are quite some stuff around it.

Please try this:

  • Uninstall the NVIDIA driver.
  • Download the latest Studio driver version from here.
  • Start the installation (as administrator).
  • Don’t install the whole package, use the Custom (Advanced) settings.
  • Disable everything (don’t install NVIDIA Experience, PhysX, etc.), keep just the video driver enabled.
