Cubase 12 Elements freezing and Download Manager problems

Hi all,

As with all noobs, introductions first. My name is Jarus Bosman, I’m a software devloper and a musician in my spare time. I’ve used Cubase SX3 a long time ago, switched to Presonus, then got my marbles back and purchased Cubase 12. I’ve just installed it this week.

Here is my problem:

I’m using a Behringer UMC204HD with the latest drivers on Windows 11, all up to date, and a CME UF6 controller through the Behringer’s MIDI port.

My paid Cubase Elements 12 freezes, mostly on startup on the audio driver selection screen, but sometimes randomly while working in Cubase. I’ve tried safe startup and disabling all plugins, but this makes no difference. I’ve also uninstalled Cubase, deleted all files in my Windows AppData directory, and reinstalled, with no improvement.

I’ve investigated the dump, and can see it complains about the MIDI Out on the Behringer. It is possible that I screwed something up, but I was hoping to undo it by uninstalling and removing all files. this does not seem to be the case.

Soooo I decided to uninstall EVERYTHING Steinberg and reinstall.

Now my new problem, is that the Download Manager complains about not being able to connect to the download server, so I’m not even able to reinstall anything anymore.

So I actually have 2 problems. Hope someone can assist me!

Hi,

  1. Could you please attach the DMP file?

  2. Make sure, there is no Firewall or Antivirus blocking the communication with the Steinberg servers.

Hi,

This freeze is in the well known old Microsoft WDM MIDI Driver. Lately, I have seen similar reports with Behringer devices.

In Cubase > Studio > Studio Setup > MIDI Ports Setup, you can enable WinRT to avoid this old buggy Microsoft WDM MIDI Driver.

Thank you Martin, I reinstalled everything from scratch and the software ran without glitches over the weekend, but I’m going to enable WinRT in any case as a precaution. Thank you for your assistance!
