In Cubase 12 Pro I had just configured Control Room + an audio track to enable the Cue 1 button for A/B comparison tests (set the compare track output to “no bus” with a Cue #1 Send). I did not edit any Cubase preferences. Now, for all projects Cubase is not playing any wav or midi track audio. In the key and audio editors I can get audio if I (a) click Audition for wav events, or (b) manually click the midi event’s notes or vst instrument virtual keyboard notes. In the case of midi events when playing a track I can see midi note data pinging the vst instrument gui–but no sound.
I already disabled Control Room and have done many tests w/ the help of ChatGPT. I can provide details. Appreciate any help!
Thanks for the quick reply. I re-enabled Control Room, added a new Cue wav track, set the Cue 1 to “Cues” as you suggest, and set the Cue Sends to Cue 1. Same problem–no play audio unless I click Audition in the wav editor.
Okay, can you upload a screenshot of the Control Room with Cue 1 and Main open, please? Also screenshots of your Cue 1 track routing (left side of the track in the inspector) as well as screenshots of Inputs, Outputs and Control Room under F4 Audio connections. And while you are at it, a screenshot of your Cue track in the mixer with the sends. I am pretty sure that’s where the culprit is hiding…
Control Room is enabled? And no Output ports assigned under F4 Outputs, right?
Thanks again. Windows 10. Using a Scarlett Solo aud interface.
In Audio Connections:
Outputs–Stereo Out = Not Connected.
Control Room-Cue 1=Not connected.
Monitor 1-Focusrite USB Audio, connected to Output 1/2 (R/L)
It feels like a big clue is that I get audio when I click individual midi notes or the vst virtual keyboard in the Key Editor, just not when playing the track.
Thank you for the screenshots, there is nothing supsicious.
Can you try to relaunch Cubase and press Ctrl(Cmd) + Shift + Alt (Option) and start Cubase with Preferences temporarily disabled, please? Maybe something has gone rogue here?
Thanks. Just tried that and even in safe mode a single added wav track fails to play unless you are in the editor and click Audition. So perhaps a reinstall is in order. Hopefully I can save the full preferences folder and then re-use it after re-install. I’ll have to research details before I try this.
A new install would be the last resort. I still think it’s something rather simple. But
truth be told, I am running out of ideas. Maybe someone else will chime in?
In case youngo for a nw installation: You should be able to transfer your settings and presets. The Profile function is your friend. Also, do a forum search so you don’t forget track presets, PLE, plugin presets etc.
Good luck!
Thanks so much for your help so far and yes I hope someone else shares a few ideas. I agree it seems like there should be something “simple” that would fix this. I’ll keep experimenting.
Hi Johnny, when booting without prefs and creating a clean wav track, playing the track shows zero meter activity. Inside the wav editor clicking Audition plays the audio and shows meter activity on Stereo Out but nothing on the track meter.
