Cubase 12 not recording the instruments i play

hi everyone …

ive been learning to use cubase 12

when i load an instrument track i am able to select the instrument i want to use…

and when i play the instrument it shows a pane in the window and the pane moves to the right

i also hear the instrument sounds as i play

unfortunately the sounds are not recorded when i finish recording …

and the pane disappears …

i have tried recording with the monitor switch enabled but still
cubase 12 does not record the sounds…

everybody kindly help out…

thanks for your time…

Hi and welcome to the forum,

Can you see the the MIDI Part has been created during the record? Can you see the MIDI Part after the recording? Is the Record Enable button switched on?

Could you double check the Preferences > MIDI > MIDI Filter, please? By default only SysEx filter is enabled for both Record and Thru.

hi martin…

thanks for your reply…

i dont see any midi part created when i record instruments…i can see SysEx enabled for record and thru…

funny enough i was able to record and hear audio before now but now i cannot hear any audio when i record my voice…and no midi part is created too…

also i have cakewalk on my pc and could this be the issue for i installed cakewalk before i installed cubase 12 and the cubase 12 on my system is a new download and a new update after i had issues with activation and license keys

thanks for your time…

Hi,

What MIDI Input do you use, please?

Could you add a screenshot of the Project window while recording, please?

hi martin

i am recording directly to my dell windows home core i5 8gb ram, 64 bit operating system, x64 based processor…no audio to midi, no hardware nor any such thing

i did not have any issues with cakewalk…but cakewalk does not seem user friendly–so many windows and a cluttered layout…and i record voice and play instruments on cakewalk and the audio and instrument all “record” and give sound…

im recording my voice and playing instruments on my laptop…

the cubase 12 version is 12.0.70 built june 16 2023

unfortunately i can’t print the project window --when i press print screen and paste it in this conversation box it only shows what is below:

thanks

oops when i posted my reply the screen was posted to the cubase blog conversation box

Hi,

What do you mean by this exactly, please? Do you use a microphone? Where is it plugged to? Or do you use the internal PC microphone?

From the screenshot, I can see there is a very tiny audio signal coming to Cubase. Could you attach a screenshot of the Studio > Audio Connections > Inputs, to let us know, what Audio Device and Audio Ports do you use, please?

hi martin…i am using my internal pc’s microphone

this is the audio connections screen with the outputs tab clicked

this is the audio connections screen with the inputs tab clicked

thanks

Hi,

I’m afraid the internal microphone is not sensitive enough and you cannot get enough of the gain.

Of course you can record this way and increase the gain/Volume in Cubase. But you will get lots of noise.

It’s possible the mic Levels could need adjusting in windows sound settings too I guess?
