Cubase 12 Pro CTRL+ALT+S not working

I have Window 11 and I am running Cubase 12 Pro latest version. The “Save New Version “ or CTRL+ALT+S has stopped working. Every time I enter CTRL+ALT+S it opens the screen “Save As” or does Solo Track, instead. I already deleted and restarted the whole Folder /Cubase 12_64 several times. Deleted Key C0mmands and reset it all. I have run out of options. Can anyone please help?

But doing a “Save as” in the project folder works (just to make sure that there is no weird permission problem.
Could it be that your keyboard has become somewhat wonky and unreliable?
Have you tried configuring a completely different key command for “Save new version” and see if that works?

I tried CTRL+ALT+W is also opening “Save As”. and it doesn’t work. By the way, CTRL+ALT+S works in other programs, not in Cubase. The keyboard is fine it is a new HP notebook. Straight save CTRL +S is also opening “Save As”. I tried reset and no success.

That to me looks actually more like a permission problem - for example, Windows Notepad, when hitting “CTRL-S” and not being allowed to write to a file or directory, also shows the “Save as…” dialog.
Can you actually do a “save as…” to a new file name in the project direcory?
Is this just with one project or with all projects?

I tried saving CTRL+ALT+S to a different disk and… It works!!! Now I have to chace the permission…

Do you by any chance “Ransomware Protection” enabled in Windows?

Sorted! Many Thanks!!! :

Could you maybe tell what the solution was? Might possibly help other users who encounter the issue.

“Save as” works for me with CTRL+SHIFT+S

Yesterday I thought I had solved it. Today working on an existing session and the same problem again. I was happy to try fese suggestion, but it looks like it has nothing to do with permission and “thanks anyway”. CTRL+ALT+S works fine when I start a new Cubase session. Existing sessions are the problem. I cannot assign CTRL+ALT+S when configuring keycommand, it won’t let me type it in. I assigned CTRL+ALT+W and it does Save New Session. I wonder if the saved sessions keep Key Command info, if so, can it get corrupted. I am back where I started. How can this be solved?

Hey reberclark! That’s correct key command for “Save as” CTRL+SHIFT+S

Happening to me on Windows 11 after the latest update which installed “Snipping Tool”. I removed Snipping tool as the default command to use that is CTRL-ALT-S which cannot be changed.
Cubase Key commands lists CTRL-ALT-S as the Save New Version command.
If i change it and reset it, it reverts back to this which is the default, but it does not work. When i go to assign it manually, it will not accespt the ALT key as valid input.
In fact, when i press the ALT key back in the arrange window, the pointer changes to the DRAW Tool, and the “SUS” button on the mixer Toggles on!!! (Suspend all channel linking).

All kinds of weird here. So basically 20 years of muscle memory using CTRL-ALT-_ to Save a new version has to be relearnt unless i can try and hack a way to get it working. Has anyone solved the issue?
