Hi all,
I did a long overdue upgrade from Cubase 8.5 Pro to 12 Pro last year, and I have a few problems with it, some of which has been brought up here before. I can not find anything about the problem mentioned above, though.
So, one problem I’m having is that some VSTs takes a long time to load - up to a minute. It seems to be only certain VSTs, and most often it’s the same ones every time. It is not only third party plug-ins - for example one of them is Groove Agent. Other than that it seems pretty random and not tied to a specific developer. I know it could be worse - a minute is after all only a minute, but it is a bit annoying, and if I could solve the problem that’d be a relief. Oh, Media Bay also takes a long time to load, but only every now and then.
Perhaps I should mention what happens: When I load these VSTs, Cubase kind of hangs temporarily. Let’s say I had just hit stop so the music hasn’t gone all silent yet - then you can see on the meters that they freeze while loading said plug-ins. When the VST is loaded it goes back to normal. Sometimes when I load a plug-in while a project is running/playing (which I’m not sure if you should do really, but sometimes I forget about that cause I’m in a creative spree and want to insert an effect quickly etc) - then the meters freeze (well, all of Cubase freezes), but the music keeps playing. I hope what I’m trying to describe makes sense.
I have quite a lot of plug-ins, so I don’t remember all of the problematic ones, and I don’t know if it matters which ones they are anyway.
Interestingly enough I had this problem also on Cubase 8.5 Pro (running on the same computer). It worked flawlessly for a few years, then things suddenly changed overnight and one day this problem started seemingly from out of nowhere. Since it was the same also on 8.5 on the same computer I am not ruling out that there’s some kind of problem with the actual computer rather than Cubase, but it’s hard to pinpoint and know where to start regardless of it’s Cubase or my computer.
I can’t remember what I did, but last year I tried to resolve this, and I managed to do so, and it lasted for a week or so and then the problem came back.
Lastly I will mention 3 other problems I am having, in case they are relevant or connected:
-
I sometimes get the “freeze” error message when starting up Cubase. I have read about it here on the forum but either there was no real solution or what worked for others to resolve it didn’t work for me.
-
Cubase gets stuck on “scanning VST3 plugins” for about 30 seconds every time I start it. This has been brought up in the forum and there are things in those threads I could try, but I did not see that anyone had really resolved it, except I think for one user it was Waves plugins that was the culprit.
-
After closing a project and I’m done for the day I have to wait say 20 seconds before closing Cubase or it will hang and I have to use task manager to close it (this seems like a common issue).
Other than that I don’t have any issues that I can think of, and though the issues described here aren’t crucial or preventing me from making music to a high extent it would be nice to not have to sit and wait for VSTs to load.
