I’m having a lot of issues with CPU overload, and this happens even with EMPTY sessions.
I also noticed that turning ‘constrain delay compensation’ ON actually helps. Makes no sense to me why this would make any difference as there are no plugins loaded, not to mention that logic would expect the CPU to be under MORE load with this turned off if there WERE plugins loaded.
I’ve tried reinstalling, performing disk maintenance, even a different computer, all with the same issue.
At one point I had a similar issue and it was due to plugin inserts in the Control Room. Try removing any inserts and see if that fixes it. Then re-add one by one to find the offender.
My audio interface is a Focusrite Red4Pre with current firmware upgrades. The ASIO driver is the Focusrite Thunderbolt ASIO. Buffer size is currently 96 although I change this when I’m tracking to minimize latency (I have experimented with different buffer size settings but this does not affect the CPU overload condition). The OS is Windows 10. System is an intel i7 10-core with 128GB RAM. OS storage is a 1TB SSL, with an array of SSL hard drives for sample and project storage.
