Lost licenses for Cubase 13 and 14 (paid and updated) due to erroneous use of illegal Backbone software which damaged the SIP. Now I can not use either and get “no valid license found”.
What can I do please?
Welcome to the forum
What do you mean with “damaged the SIP”?
If your Cubase 13 and 14 licenses are valid you can activate them in your Activation Manager. You can check for the licenses in the online profile and if they are visible there you can activate them on your computer. Of course you need to login with the correct account.
Thank you for your answer.
The licenses are valid, I paid for them and I have used both 13 and 14 many times. This just happened after trying to use illegitimate software 2 days ago. I get “Steinberg License Engine is Not Responding” when trying to open the Activation Manager
Since you are on a Mac (I avoid Apple) I can’t tell you what to look for here, but this sounds like there is some issue with the installation of the licensing system.
First of all, restart the computer and see if that helps in any way. If not start at least the Download Assistant and see if that is updating any utilities that are needed, like the Activation Manager or the eLicenser Control Center.
If there is anything missing the SDA will reinstall it.
Thank you so much once again.
I did restart the computer many times.
In the Download Assistant I tried to install again and I get the response: “Installation failed due to an Unknown error”
In the Activation Manager I get “Steinberg License Engine is Not Responding”
It seems hopeless. and Steinberg Support sends me to the Local Distributor, which does not know how to handle such cases
Try uninstalling and re-installing Steinberg Download Assistant, activation manager, etc. In between use a registry and system cleaner app like CCleaner or so
He’s on a Mac, not Windows. There is no registry or CCleaner.
Thank you. As said I’m on a Mac and did not find any solution yet, and no help from Steinberg Support
Try to make a new install in a new user account.
That’s interesting. I’ll try to do that. Thank you!
Tried that. Did not work at all, the problem transferred immediately to the new user when trying to make a new install.
I know it is my mistake in the first place but Steinberg reluctance to help is really frustrating, and I am a Cubase user since 1990!
I can’t recall seeing the “on Mac” on the title but anyway, since he’s on Mac there’s no need to use it. The purpose was to clean the leftover registry values of the program on Windows.
Have a look at the thread title, it says “Cubase 13, 14 on Mac”.
Yes, this is what I mean: I can see it now, but I can’t recall seeing it before.
Anyway, to the OP: Have you found a solution?
Thanks for you concern. I did not find any solution, I even suggested to Steinberg that I am willing to pay again for the updates but no answer at all…
if you received no answer, it means it wasn’t still processed. Sorry for that, but C14 was just released, the support team is inundated with enquiries.
If your paid licenses are listed in your MySteinberg, you have those licenses and won’t need to pay again.
The problem is evidently due to licensing software that got broken due to the installation of pirated software and getting around SIP.
No support is provided for systems where cracked software was installed, unless the OS is reinstalled from scratch. Please understand that Steinberg cannot provide support to fix issues created by modified software, protection components that were illegally replaced or where things get messed up due to software which is not written by Steinberg and actually meant to circumvent protection.
Thank you very much for your answer.
Yes, my paid licenses are listed in MySteinberg.
Do I have to install only the Mac Os from scratch or do I have to reformat the complete disk on which Steinberg Software resides? Are there no other possibilities?
Thanks again
So the issue is indeed technical / due to that installation, not due to not having a valid Cubase license.
I was merely stating how it works support-wise. You might be able to recover normal operation by rolling back using Time Machine to a point previous to that installation, for example. But I have no clue how that stuff works, so not really in the position to offer advice here.
Thank you for your help
@Raviv_Gazit ’Do I have to install only the Mac Os from scratch or do I have to reformat the complete disk on which Steinberg Software resides? Are there no other possibilities?’
If you have damaged your SIP I would strongly recommend a total reformat of your disk/s.
