Cubase 13 Artist All of a Sudden Won't Start / Crashes

I have Cubase 13 Artist. It has worked fine for two months (since I installed it) but today, for no apparent reason, it fails to start (by locking up right after the Safe Mode Screen). I can sometimes get it to load, if I use the “Delete program preferences” option, but even then it will soon crash as soon as I start to use it. I’ve rebooted 15 times. I uninstalled all Cubase products (Cubase Artist 13, the Halcion files, the MediaBay, etc.) and did a reinstall, but that didn’t help.

Safe Mode screen says “The application was termined with an error while executing the following file: Freeze”

If it matters, I am still using an e-licenser (USB hardware key) which I got years ago when I purchased Cubase 6. A few months ago, I purchased an upgrade to Cubase Artist 13 (and it has worked just fine until today), but when I look at the USB - elicenser section, it refers to Cubase 11 (which I don’t think I ever had) and there is nothing referenced in the Soft-elicensor section.

So I am at a total loss on what to do next. Can anyone please help?

Hi Timothy, welcome to the forum.

Could you post a crash dump file created after one of the crashes? You’ll find them in folder %userprofile%\Documents\Steinberg\CrashDumps.

Cubase 13 doesn’t use the eLicenser any longer and therefore your license doesn’t show up there. Instead, it should be present in the Activation Manager.
With the update from Cubase 6 to 13, you automatically also got a license for Cubase 11 which is the final version that use the eLicenser.

Thank you, Martin, for taking the time to respond. Here is the latest crash dump file.

Also, I see Cubase 13 in the Steinberg Activiation Manager, so thank you, as well, for pointing that out.

All my best,
Tim

You’re welcome, Tim. Thanks for uploading the file. As far as I can see, the device driver KORGUM64.DRV is responsible for the crash. Therefore, Steinberg probably can’t do much about it and I recommend to also report this to Korg. Maybe they already offer an updated version of the driver.
