Cubase 13 Chord Pad issue

Running Cubase 13 on Mac Studio with Sonoma 14.3.1. Trying to learn Chord Pads, and am finding they are interfering with the audio driver, clicks and crackles. First I thought it was related to midi, so I isolated the midi, only sending for my Arturia Keylab 88, but the issues have continued. The clicks seem to be the sound breaking up. This only happens with Chord Pads and in all Chord Pad modes. Sample rate is correctly matched with audio output, so I am at a loss.

I would be grateful for any ideas/solutions.

Hi,

Try to increase the Buffer Size, please.

This cannot be the case. The whole Cubase is using one ASIO driver.

Thank you. I appreciate your timely response. Very helpful.

You are on to something with regard to clipping, but I am at a loss as to what is causes the resource drain. Looking at the Audio Performance meter, 25% is being used without any plugins, even on a new blank project. The only application open is Cubase. Is there a leak in the software? To eliminate my interface, I have switched to internal audio and still 25% is being used without any plugins, even on a new blank project. I am seeing this even with buffer set to 1024, which is very high.

Hi Martin, I see you are an expert.

I have now read several other posts about performance issues. Is there a way to eliminate this? I am in the evaluation process of Cubase, coming from Logic. I have yet to buy it, although I have spend a lot of time learning it. I don’t want to buy a problem, so need to understand if it can be fixed. My M1 is an M1 Ultra with maxed specs.

Thank you

Hi,

I’m sorry, I’m not really an expert in the performance area.

But the ASIO Driver usage/load doesn’t have to be directly linked to the CPU usage.

Does it help, if you increase the Buffer Size? What Audio Device do you use, please?

The issue is dropout when the meter hits peak (red). The meter shows 25% usage at idle, even in a new project with no plugins. My audio interface is a Focusrite Clarette PreX. It is not the issue as this is occurring with or without it connected. Increasing the Buffer Size does not correct the problem.

I have tried, what seems like, every combination of settings. No luck. I can see from posted videos on YouTube I am not alone and that this has been an issue for sometime. I can’t imagine it being a problem for everyone, because if it was, Cubase would not have many users. That is why I am looking for what I am doing differently.

Can we agree that the performance meter should be at zero when the software is idle without plugins?

Sorry to be a bother, but here is a fun fact. Opened Cubase 13 inb safe mode. Disabled all third party plugins and the problem is still there. So it seems to be baked into Cubase. Again sorry to be a bother.

My last question. All roads, including the manual for Cubase 13 say to Activate Stienberg power scheme to correct this. However this option is not available where indicated in the manual. Where has it been moved? Thanks.

Hi,

Again, I’m not really an expert in this area, but I don’t think so. ASIO usage is not about plug-ins only.

The Power Sceme has been removed. Cubase can control this by itself, now.

Thank you for all your input. It would seem that Cubase 13 is not compatible with Apple M1 Ultra. As a side note, as I am in testing mode, I also tried Nuendo, but got similar results.

As ASIO is a driver protocol for digital audio specified by Steinberg, and in the Apple-verse the only driver choices are for the specified device, there seems to be no solution.

I am happy to compile all of I have learned and forward it to the development team. Do you know of a specific contact method that would be best for this?

Thank you.

For the record, Nuendo does perform better. And I am sure that whatever the problem is is related to my setup somehow. I know how complex these things are.
