Cubase 13 crashes

I am trying to start a new project but it’s impossible to do something.
The app suddenly crashes and I also noticed a specific bug which I can’t read files from my external SSD drive.

When I select the folder I wanna sync Cubase crashes!
It’s frustrating to experience things like that especially when you pay for an upgrade, I expect it to be stable and smooth after 1.5 years without updates. What can I do other than send Steinberg the logs?

Hi,

Update to the latest macOS 14.1.1, please.

If the fresh remains, attach the *.ips file, please.

How is your external drive formatted, please?

Updated and it’s still the same.
I bought the SSD last week and didn’t change anything, ExFAT or NTFS?

Hi,

It’s ExFAT. Interesting, there is other issue with this format in Cubase 13. Maybe it’s related. I will investigate. Thank you for the file.

Hi,

Reported to Steinberg. Thank you.

Anything to do until then?
I can’t load samples from my external SSD, my internal one has no space anymore. It will take time probably

Hi,

  • Quit Cubase.
  • Locate the MediaBay Server folder in the Preferences folder.
  • ZIP the folder and delete the original folder.
  • Start Cubase.

A new MediaBay Server folder should be created. Does it work now?

If yes, could you attach the zipped MediaBay Server folder to be able to investigate more, please?

The Preferences folder is:
Mac: ~/Library/Preferences/Steinberg MediaBay Server/
Win: %appData% Steinberg/Steinberg MediaBay Server/

If you want to work with your SSD (not just transfer data from PC to Mac) I would not use ExFat - it‘s really not ideal for streaming audio. Use a MacOSX format (APFS or Mac os extended).

I can’t find the MediaBay Server folder, it doesn’t exist

Actually even if I select This Computer folder, it crashes. I think it has nothing to do with SSD because any selected folder causes this crash

Hi,

Sorry, the folder is named Steinberg MediaBay Server.

I had this problem and it was resolved by Manually installing the Media bay . Why the download assistance never installed it ? i wouldn’t know but this solved the lack of Mediaserver issue @daniely93

I will try and respond here, I uninstalled Cubase 12 at all and tried to re-install. Still the same.
Had to install everything on my Windows too for a backup, working fine so far on Windows.
