I was having trouble with it recognizing my Midi express devices and sometimes rebooting helped. After this one, now cubase won’t open. Just sits on the task bar.
Hi,
Do you have any crash dump file available?
So I was going to try starting over again, and disconnected the MIDI Express 128. When I did this, I saw that Cubase, which would not open before, started opening immediately, and was able to play the projects with audio files. That is, just disconnecting the cable induced Cubase to open, without clicking it again. I also saw that there were about 5 other Cubase start windows from the failed attempt to open. I closed all of them and just used the one that finished opening to practice drums to the recorded audio projects in prep for NYE gig.
So I am wondering about this sudden incompatibility with the MOTU unit. It had become recently intermittent with Cubase not recognizing it, depending on it it was connected at the beginning and sometimes recently Cubase would lock up and require a reboot, as task manager would not close it, and then the MOTU with its midi would be recognized again.
As almost all of my compositions started with midi keyboards and drums, this is a major problem. Also it is confusing because there may be multiple instances of a device, and one may be said to be missing while another choice is available. For example Proteus 2000. PK2, (PK2), apparently brought about when the original name was said to be missing and then Cubase offered another name under Window MIDI.
From numerous previous Cubase lockups, when I reboot, a window to send files to Steinberg would open and I’d send. I don’t think that happened after this situation when Cubase spotaneously opened from its failure, before the MOTO disconnect.
Hi,
What kind of windows were these?
These were Cubase starting Windows. So yesterday I started Cubase and none of the midi express devices were found. I think I went to the selection list and some name spelling were (missing) and others were a choice. I chose ones with a spelling of a device, such as PK2, and played the song and none played. then I pulled out the Midi express USB and put back and then then there was sound. Isome were wrong sound, but after correcting I was able to work on the songs as desired for hours.
So today I started Cubase with the MOTU connected and this is fresh in my memory, only 2 of the midi devices from that were shown, not connected. I chose their names in a list and then played the song and those tracks had no sound. I pulled out the USB and put back and then a track of the PK2 was playing but the wrong sound. I put it back to the one that was already shown as correct and chosen by going to another and then back and then it is the right sound. So it is confusing how intermittently and incompletely Cubase is accessing the MOTU Midiexpress, requiring tweaking and hope each time.
Hi,
Do you mean the splash screen? Or the Steinberg Hub? Did you find any hidden message behind?
They weren’t the hubs, a simpler screen, nothing behind any except the other 4 windows of the same type maybe.
