Desperate now…
Tried all different formats (the vids all show in Cubase 13 on my MacBook), on my PC it shows the pics in the arrange page but the playback screen is Black and shows nothing…
Tries the .dll thing from Cubase 12 to 13 but that didn’t work.
Vids play back in every other application on my PC its just Cubase 13 that doesn’t. Tried reaching out to Steinberg but emails go unanswered…
Please Please help if you can. Im on the latest Cubase 13
thanks.
What are your PC system specifications?
What is the precise specification/format of the video file which doesn’t show in Cubase.
Please post a short sample video that doesn’t work, so that others can try.
Or please analyse the video in Mediainfo and post the results here.
Did you try with ProRes? If not convert to ProRes using Shutter Encoder and report the result you get in Cubase here.
The vid is too large to upload, I dont have vid editing software…the vids play fine on MacBook cubase 13
Analyse in MediaInfo
Install Shutter Encoder. It’s free.
That doesn’t mean it will play on PC Cubase 13.

I’m not sure if that complies (clearly not since it doesn’t play correctly). By the way, that doesn’t show complete details for the file. Use MediaInfo.
Convert to an accepted format as outlined here:
Hi, How do I convert, I’m not a video editor I don’t have any video editing software etc…Iv never had problems before with vids until Cubase 13 on PC
The info is from MediaInfo
Right but now you do. Please follow below and you’ll be able to overcome the issue.
Install Shutter Encoder. Drag video onto the interface. Select ‘Apple ProRes’ or ‘H264’ in the ‘Choose Function’ menu. Click on ‘Start Function’.
P.S. There’s also full documentation on the Shutter Encoder website.
By the way, Cubase 13 is a bit more choosy than 12 where video formats are concerned.
@andyp13 You’re not the only one having issues. Steinberg fiddled with the video engine for version 13, (it says so on the New Features page). I believe it’s an MP4 thing. MOV files will play. ProRes files are humungously humungous.
Also, starting a second thread on the same issue won’t help.
Use default H264 settings in Shutter Encoder (as a non-humungous option). This will work in Cubase 13.
Indeed. If you want to solve the issue then please keep to one topic…
I understand what you are saying, believe me. But I’m convinced it’s a “hardware acceleration” issue. Some GPUs handle it well, some don’t.
This is my personal experience…
I used to have an AMD 6700 XT GPU. Cubase, all versions, played video as expected. I recently replaced the GPU with an AMD 7900 XTX. Now 13 won’t play ANY MP4 video. MOV files, no problem. I’ve created videos from scratch in VEGAS, no joy. All I get is flashing green. I had the same issue playing YouTube videos etc, but turning off “hardware acceleration” in the browsers cured the problem.
I created a topic here:
Yes could well be that if converting doesn’t work. Unfortunately the OP doesn’t seem to want to try converting and doesn’t seem to want to supply system specs.
I uploaded the vid specs from the MediaInfo ?
How do I convert a file? all the video convertors for windows are really expensive…
The file is over 1 gig and so will not load onto any free convertors…
The video plays in Quicktime and also video player and VLC on my PC…its only Cubase that it wont play back on even though it shows the thumbnails in the Arrange window
