Windows 11
Cubase 13 Pro V13.0.50
Not a novice with Cubase as I have been using it since SX3 and I have not experienced the issue/s I will describe in any version except V13.
I have several different external MIDI keyboards all of whom work perfectly in previous versions and this issue happens in Cubase 13 regardless of which keyboard I use.
The issue is NOT the keyboards, it is Cubase 13.
In previous versions of Cubase you would simply insert a couple of different instrument tracks, assign a VSTi’s to them, then in the main Cubase panel, click on one and away you go, it plays and you hear it. It is the only instrument playing.
In Cubase 13 this is not the case and it is flipping moronic.
In a new Session, insert any instrument and click on it - nothing.
No midi is being received by the VSTi.
In Studio Setup > MIDI Port Setup the keyboard is set up correctly.
If I use my mouse on the VSTi it plays so it is also installed correctly.
In the MIDI Controllers page, the built in profile is loaded and connected
If I open an existing session made in Cubase 12, thats a whole new issue.
Now if I click on a VSTi track the ONLY way I can hear it is opening a mixer panel and clicking on Monitor.
Why change that was NOT broken?
What is going on and what has Steinberg messed up now?
It is a pain in the backside to have to keep filitting between the main page and a mixer page just to turn on or off Monitoring.
If you happen to miss turning off monitoring on another channel - guess what, cubase routes the MIDI from my keyboard to ANY track that has monitoring on regardless of if you have the track selected or not.
As for the fact that you are unable to turn monitoring on or off from the main page is plain stupid and completly sensless. If there is to to be this idiotic monitoring feature which I doubt hardly anyone requested, then at least add a button to each track in the track view AND a global off button next to the mute /solo deactive buttons at the top of the page.
I DO NOT WANT THIS and it is flow killer and that above all is important, this is madness and I can see no reason or benefit from forcing this feature on to users.
Cubase is not a toy and it used to be one of the top DAW’s and it is now far from that.
It does not need useless shiny features added by programmers who thought it would be a good idea but understand nothing of using Cubase day in and day out to earn a living while ignoring suggestions from users.
When I have work come in from a client with a tight deadline (and they all have one) I need to work fast, I need my software to be rock solid, familiar and quick to use together with a responsive and fast customer service that does not take days to get back to you and thats if they bother to do so at all.
Say if you have a session with 30, 40 or more tracks, does Steinberg not understand that they are NOT making Cubase MORE user friendly and they are in fact making it far worse.
Also, if you release a whole new version, how about an extensive User Manual that explains EVERY new feature and how to use it?
Make sure that you have Alpha, then Beta tested BEFORE you release it for sale.
Customers are not paying you for your software only to be used as your software testers.
It is just lazy not to do so.
To say that I am at my wits end with Cubase 13 and Steinberg as a whole is an understatement.
